Julian Samora Endowed Scholarship
JSRI Endowment Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded annually. Deadline for applications is the last Wednesday in February of every year.
The Julian Samora Research Institute (JSRI) is proud to provide the opportunity for current MSU students to apply for the Julian Samora Endowed Scholarship. The scholarships, named in honor of Dr. Julian Samora, support four students, (two Graduate and two Undergraduate) engaged in scholarly activities focused on Latino/as in Midwestern communities. Applications will be reviewed and recommended by the JSRI Scholarship Committee. Recipients will be announced in March.
Requirements
Applicants must be current MSU students and must be attending MSU in the fall the following spring semesters. They must demonstrate excellent academic standing and provide evidence of interest in research on Chicano/Latino communities. A $1,000 credit will appear in both fall and spring semesters (for a total of $2,000 for the academic year).
Please note: Students of all identities are welcome to apply, and selection will not be based in any way on the student’s protected identity.
Instructions
Applicants must submit the following materials by mail or email by the last Wednesday of February, by 5:00 p.m.
- Cover letter with personal statement describing accomplishments, research/educational interests, and student goals.
- Latest official transcript at MSU.
- Resume which includes current local address and phone number.
- One letter of recommendation from a professor or advisor.
The awards committee will nominate four scholarships: 2 awards for undergraduate students, and two awards for a graduate students.
Deadline
Submissions must be received at JSRI by 5:00 p.m. on the last Wednesday in February.
