De Colores, Inc

De Colores, Inc., is an Albuquerque, New Mexico based nonprofit Hispanic organization, incorporated in 1976. The mission of De Colores, Inc., is to coalesce the talents of Hispanic artists, dancers, musicians, writers, native arts and leaders to promote cross-cultural communications. De Colores produces events and activities revolving around the culture and heritage of Hispanics. The production of events and activities occur on an annual basis with participation of 25 to 30 organizations and as many as 200 volunteers.

What is EFE?

Agencia EFE ranks as one of the world's top five news agencies due to the global scope of its coverage, its international markets, its level of technological sophistication and the variety of multimedia services on offer.

Founded in 1939, EFE is the leader in the Spanish-speaking world and tells the world's story every day in Spanish, English and Arabic.

Members

Of its total 3,400 subscribers, 531 are located in South America, 110 in Mexico, 64 in the Caribbean, 78 in Central America, 50 in the USA and the rest in Spain, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

Our members are primarily Spanish language media, whether they are periodicals, radio broadcasters or television stations.

EFE Hispanic News Services

EFE is implementing a special news service for Hispanic communications media during 1998, specifically targeting the information market in the United States of America.

EFE has a total of 2,000 employees in the entire world. In adittion to its permanent offices in New York, Miami, Washington, Houston and Los Angeles, EFE has a network of stringers and correspondents located in areas with the highest Hispanic population densities, such as in the city of Chicago.

El Centro de la Raza

El Centro de la Raza, founded in 1972, through a peaceful occupation of an abandoned school building located on Beacon Hill in Seattle, Washington is a civil rights organization serving the Latino community. Our programs include youth servics, leadership development, community organizing, cultural work, economic development, housing development and an array of social services from childcare to services for the elder. Our work involves promoting peace and understanding around the world through cultural and educational exchanges buidling people to people ties by sponsoring tours, educational, and cultural presentations and speakers. Our organization combines a strong sense of self-esteem and connection to one's family and culture with active participation in community affairs. Although, the founding of El Centro de la Raza was sparked by Latinos and acquired a Spanish name, it began and remains, " The Center of the People."

It is a home for all people interested in making a better and more just world in which, to borrow from Dr. King, "people are judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin." We seek to empower people and to encourage participation in basic social change. Survival services ease the pain and suffering of our communities but it does not address the root causes of poverty, discrimination, alienation and despair.

Ele's Place

Ele's Place is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating awareness and support for grieving children and their families in Mid-Michigan. It consists of professionals and trained volunteers who offer children the opportunity to accept the loss of a family member or an important friend as well as to continue their lives in a hopeful and confident manner. Ele's Place staff and volunteers are also available to provide community presentations on the issues concerning grief and loss. Services are at no charge. IDEAL Latinoamérica

IDEAL Latinoamérica is a school that was established 22 years ago, it has as its mission the teaching of the Spanish language to people from throughout the world which need to communicate in this language. We facilitate the knowledge and the understanding of the culture of Mexico and Latin America. IDEAL Latinoamérica is located in Cuernavaca, to the south of Mexico City which is renown for its Spring-like climate thoughout the year. For this reason it is called the "City of Eternal Spring".

IDEAL Latinoamérica originally began in 1975 under the name Instituto de Estudios de America Latina (IDEAL). Over the years IDEAL developed as a more complex and thorough program in both the Spanish Language and Latin American culture. IDEAL became Instituto IDEAL during the start of the new program. In September 1996, Instituto IDEAL was restructured to create IDEAL Latinoamérica. The change to IDEAL Latinoamérica was a result of reforming the institute's mission and the further development of the Spanish language and culture program.

Throughout it's history, IDEAL has provided the opportunity to study Spanish and Mexican cultures to people from around the world. University and high school students, volunteer groups, seminaries, working professionals, and individuals from countless other walks of life have all studied at IDEAL Latinoamérica. IDEAL routinely teaches students and individuals from the United States, Canada, Germany, Japan, and many other countries.

"Oral Communication" is the basis of teaching language at IDEAL Latinoamérica. Spanish is the language in which students communicate with teachers, friends and families in daily life in Mexico. The students practice intensively the language in such fashion that learning is arrived in natural manner. In addition to regular classes at IDEAL Latinoamérica, the students learn through various methods; conference, round table discussions, songs in Spanish, Mexican cuisine, Latin American dances, tours, festivals and many other activites which are wonderful opportunities to speak and communicate in Spanish.

IDEAL Latinoamérica maintains a team of experienced instructors, who are committed to the goal of aiding students in acquiring and mastering Spanish language fluency. The instructors use unjoyable and positive experiences; such as shopping, culture of the people of Mexico, Latin America, and all of the Hispanic World.

National Citizenship Network

The National Citizenship Network is a clearinghouse for the exchange of information, analysis and strategy on a wide range of issues affecting immigrants and refugees in the United States. The Network distributes event announcements, action alerts, sign-on letters and press stories among 170 advocacy, social service, public policy and legal organizations in 24 states.

National Community for Latino Leadership, Inc.

The National Community for Latino Leadership, (NCLL) Inc. is a coalition of local and national leadership development programs promoting the social and economic advancement of the Latino community through 1) the development of Latino leaders who are ethical, responsible and accountable to Latino community interests, and 2) the research and dissemination of Latino leadership models, resources and best practices. Our efforts are made possible through support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the Ford Foundation. Established in 1989, NCLL moved from Phoenix, AZ to Washington, DC in February 1999.

Among our membership organizations are: ASPIRA, Inc.; La Casa de Don Pedro, Inc.; the Inter-University Program for Latino Research at UCLA, Chicano Studies Research Center; the Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County, the National Urban Fellows, Inc.; and the Southwest Voter Registration Education Project. These organizations along with an extensive list of affiliated leadership programs provide the network for a dialogue among Latino leaders and others.

Our objectives are:

To provide targeted technical assistance and programs designed to enhance the effectiveness and impact of established and emerging Latino leaders and organizations.

To identify and train an effective, community-based cadre of Latino leaders, focusing on grassroots constituencies and individuals who are demonstratively committed to Latino community work.

To support applied research that identifies successful and replicable models and definitions of Latino leadership that are consistent with NCLL's organizational goals and mission.

To review and widely disseminate key lessons gleaned from successful Latino leadership development efforts across the nation.

NCLL is currently initiating a number of projects. Among them are a national survey of Latino leaders from across the civic, artistic, intellectual, religious, and business communities; an on-line directory linking community members to leadership development programs nationwide; a Leadership Calendar of Events, Programs, and Conferences; and other projects such as the development of a Leadership Glossary and Annotated Bibliography, and a comprehensive Directory of Latino Leaders.

National Council of La Raza (NCLR)

Background

The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization which seeks to improve life opportunities for Hispanic Americans. NCLR advocates on behalf of U.S. Hispanics and serves as a national umbrella organization and source of capacity-building assistance for over 215 "affiliates"-Hispanic community-based organizations in 38 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia.

NCLR's Policy Analysis Center, in the Office of Research, Advocacy, and Legislation (ORAL), serves as a "think tank" on public policy issues, generating information for public and private sector decision makers, the media, the Hispanic community, and the general public. Current policy analysis priorities include education, poverty, employment, the federal budget, immigration, farmworker issues, housing and community development, civil rights, and trade. NCLR's legislative advocacy is conducted principally by the Policy Analysis Center.

Poverty and Employment Projects

As a component of the Policy Analysis Center, NCLR's Poverty and Employment Projects develop research and policy analysis reports; monitor poverty, employment, and related policy and legislation; house and maintain a Census Information Center (CIC); and disseminate information about the economic status of Latinos to Congress, the media, national and local organizations, and the general public.

Tejano Entertainers & Music Association (TEMA)

The Tejano Entertainers & Music Association (TEMA) was founded to offer new visions, new directions, and new horizons for the Tejano entertainment and music industry in the new millenium.

TEMA's mission is to develop and produce a new world of Tejano entertainment and to pursue excellence through music, media, and the performing arts.

As we enter the 21st Century, Latinos are projected to become the largest minority in the United States. The new millenium presents tremendous opportunities and challenges for the Tejano entertainment industry throughout both hemispheres. TEMA is prepared to meet these challenges and offer creative forums and venues which will propel Tejano entertainment up to the next level of success.

The mere birth of TEMA on July 16, 1998, instantaneously expanded the Tejano music industry into a global opportunity for those involved in Tejano entertainment, including radio, television, film, performing arts, fashion, dance, music and media.

TEMA plans to develop and produce new state, national, and international forums and venues for Tejano entertainers to perform. Among the exciting plans for TEMA include the TEMA Awards, a 6-cities entertainment tour in 1998, two entertainment spectaculars in Las Vegas with national and international radio and television syndication, the Golden Mic Awards for broadcasters, the Entertainment Media Awards, the Tejano Celebrity Fashion Show, a National Talent Search program, the Tejano Partners Membership program, and other fun-filled events in the future.

Telamon Corporation is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to serve those in need. From a small 1965 project in a few counties in North Carolina, the company has grown to a ten-state operation with more than 90 offices, administering 86 different grants.
