This brief provides a summary of the Summit on Latino Issues in Michigan: Toward a Statewide Agenda held on July 31, 2009. More than 60 individuals serving Latinos came together to find solutions to Latinos current problems in Michigan. Several issue areas were discussed during the summit and include the following topics: education, immigrant rights, health and healthcare, civic engagement, media portrayal of Latinos, economic development, jobs and employment, Latino-focused statewide network, gender relations, and civil rights and discrimination. Each of the 10 topics were discussed thoroughly during the summit. The next steps that were identified were: creating an organizational vehicle, keeping communications alive, inventory organizational activities and communicating with media and legislators. This summit served as a way to advance the needs of Latinos in Michigan.
